Alaska Outdoor Adventure Charters
Also famously known as the Alaskan Panhandle, Southeast Alaska is now synonymous with outdoor adventure. Your itinerary can be tailored to create the experience of a lifetime by adding activities ranging from helicopter picnics atop a glacier, to sea kayaking, rock climbing, hiking or casting a fly into a stream chock-full of salmon. Or you can just peacefully enjoy a fine bottle of wine and a gourmet dinner aboard your yacht as the sunset paints the mountains and sky all around you with a glorious rosy glow.
In among the many islands of Southeast Alaska, you’re likely to see humpback whales breaching, seals lounging on the rocks or pods of orcas swimming in the distance. Chances are you’ll also spy American bald eagles wheeling overhead and big brown bears hunting for their dinner along the water’s edge. One way or another, you’ll never forget the breathtaking beauty of Southeast Alaska.
Ketchikan to Boca de Quadra
Fly into Ketchikan to meet your yacht. Depart this little port town and head into the wilderness. Depending on the time of year, you might spot orca whales. You’ll cruise into Mink Arm, Boca de Quadra – a serene spot surrounded by lush greenery – where you’ll anchor for the night. Dine on the yacht’s aft deck, cuddled in cozy blankets, before retiring indoors for a movie night in the yacht’s very own cinema.
Hugh Smith Lake
Breakfast is served against the backdrop of this stunning scenery. Afterwards, hike to Hugh Smith Lake for more breathtaking views. The rest of the day can be spent with onshore exploration and a picnic lunch. Dinner will be served on board, perhaps enjoying fresh fish and crab caught that day.
Ellas Bay
Arrive at Ella Bay and after breakfast it’s time to head ashore for a meander on the Ella Lake trail. Animal encounters are the norm here: expect anything from wild mink to bears. Anglers can cast a line in the river for trout; land a few and it’s fresh trout for dinner on board tonight. Then retire to the salon for drinks and a movie.
Punchbowl Cove to Manzanita Bay
One of the most magnificent stopovers on an itinerary filled with mindblowing locations is Punchbowl Cove, where vertical rock walls surround the impressive fjords. Cruising through this cove has been compared with being able to sail through Yosemite National Park. After exploring the fjords, head into Manzanita Bay to drop the hook. It’s a night completely tucked away from civilization – enjoy solitude and starry skies.
Manzanita Bay
Start the morning with a challenging hike, which rewards your efforts with beautiful waterfalls. For those who prefer to cast a line, the fishing here is excellent. If the weather is warm enough, have the crew unfurl the inflatable Island Hot Springs. Natives have long used these waters for medicinal purposes. Unwind in the springs, then enjoy cocktails and a great meal on board your yacht.
Walker Cove
It’s a short jaunt to the postcard-perfect Walker Cove, surrounded by 4,000ft peaks. Birdwatchers can try to catch a glimpse of trumpeter swans, bald eagles and herons. It’s a lovely place to tour on the kayaks – or have the crew take you for a tender ride to get a closer view of the waterfalls plunging into the sea. There’s also a chance to see bears and harbor seals. Your chef will prepare a wonderful dinner.
Bell Island
This morning, take off for a helicopter tour, looking down on the beautiful lands and waters you’ve been exploring. After an active week, nothing beats a soothing soak at Bell Island Hot Springs. Natives have long used these waters for medicinal purposes. Unwind in the springs, then enjoy cocktails and a great meal on board your yacht.
Ketchikan
On your last day, make your way back to Ketchikan. Bid farewell to your crew before returning to the buzz of the real world.
